Llamarlo "Serial Enabled LCD Kit" no le hace justicia a lo genial que realmente es. Después de ensamblar este kit completamente PTH, tendrá una tarjeta de desarrollo totalmente compatible con Arduino que además tiene integrada una pantalla 16x2 de texto blanco sobre fondo negro.

Resulta que el ATMega328 tiene capacidades muy superiores a las necesarias para solo controlar una LCD paralela, así que queda mucha potencia disponible para hacer cualquier otra cosa que se necesite. Hemos sacado todos los pines GPIO no utilizados a headers de 0.1" en un lado de la tarjeta, lo que hace que este sea no solo un excelente kit para principiantes en soldadura, sino también una herramienta de desarrollo increíble para programadores con experiencia.

Para cargar código nuevo al LCD Kit mediante el bootloader, necesitará un convertidor serial a USB (u otro Arduino) y configurar la opción Board en Arduino como 'Arduino Duemilanove w/ ATmega328.' El microcontrolador viene preprogramado con el firmware SerialLCD además del bootloader, así que si solo desea usarlo como una LCD con interfaz serial, no necesitará programar nada.

Calling this the "Serial Enabled LCD Kit" doesn't do justice to how cool it actually is. After you've assembled this all-PTH kit, you'll be left with a fully Arduino-compatible development board that just happens to have a white on black 16x2 display built-in.

Turns out the ATMega328 is pretty far over-spec for just controlling a parallel LCD so there's a lot of horsepower left over to do whatever else needs to be done. We've broken out all of the unused GPIO pins to 0.1" headers on one side of the board, making this more than just a great kit for beginner soldering but also an awesome development tool for experienced programmers.

In order to upload new code to the LCD Kit via bootloader you'll need a Serial to USB converter (or another Arduino) and have the Board setting in Arduino on 'Arduino Duemilanove w/ ATmega328.' The uC comes pre-programmed with the SerialLCD firmware on top of the bootloader, so if you just want to use it as a serial-enabled LCD, you won't need to do any programming.
